Mavs Defeat The Lightning 134 – 103

FINAL SCORE: Shreveport/Bossier Mavericks 134 — Metroplex Lightning 103

GAME COMMENTS:

The #1 ranked Shreveport/Bossier Mavericks found itself down after the 1st period of play (28-27) and was pushed by the Metroplex Lightning like it rarely has been this season.

Many of the Lightning were members of the North Dallas Vandals that made it to the ABA Championships Series last season. Will Haynes, who was 1st Team All-ABA last season had a banner performance Sunday afternoon with 25 points and 11 rebounds.

The Mavs used a 35-14 2nd quarter to gain control of the game and to lead at halftime by 20 points.

The Lightning would not go away and fought back to cut the Mavericks lead to 11 points heading into the last period of play.

Then with 9:30 to play the Lightning cut the Mavs lead to 9 points. After a Mavericks timeout. Ed Horton hit a 3 point basket and a Mavs defensive stop led to a Trey Moore 2 that put the Mavs back up by 14 points. The Mavericks used a 45 point 4th Quarter to pull away and win by a final margin of 31 points.

The Mavs and Lightning will meet again next Saturday night in Shreveport at the HMC. Tip-off will be at 7:30 PM.

MAVERICKS – Ed Horton-28 points, Tony Hooper-24 points, Trey Moore-19 points, Brandon Davis-16 points, Mike Crain-15 points, Alex Sanders-12 points

GAME SUPERLATIVES:

Mavericks Power Forward Brandon Davis set a Mavs single game record by pulling down 27 rebounds. Davis also recorded a Double/Double by scoring 16 points. The Mavs also shared the basketball by recording 34 team assist (Trey Moore & Tony Hooper led in assist with 11 & 10 respectively).

RECORD:

The Mavericks move to 21-0 on the season. (21 straight wins is the best start to a season in Mavericks History)

GAME NOTES:

The Mavericks have now won a record 47 straight games (54 straight wins at home)! This is the longest Pro Basketball Winning Streak in Professional Basketball History! The Mavericks hold a 110-7 record in the ABA over 4 seasons.

The Shreveport/Bossier Mavericks will host the Jackson Showboat this upcoming Thursday night, February 13 at the Hirsch Memorial Coliseum (HMC). Tip-off will be at 7:30 PM.
