SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER, LA-Maverick International co-owner Jerry Nelson, Jr. and Coach Steve S. Tucker announced today, that the Shreveport-Bossier Mavericks, an ABA league, is relocating to the sister cities. Nelson is currently in negotiations with Hirsch Coliseum to be the team’s new home. The first games will be play in November of this year.

The Southeast Texas Mavericks, the original team, were headquartered in Beaumont, Texas. The team’s ownership decided to move the team and rename is the Shreveport-Bossier Mavericks because, The ABA is fully backing the move and Shreveport currently does not host a Professional Sports Team.

"Based on the response we have received from the Shreveport Bossier area, Shreveport just seems like the place to be and the time is right" , says Coach Tucker.

Nelson is the owner of Nutty Jerry’s Entertainment Center in Winnie, Texas and co-owner of Maverick International. He has made a big impact in the professional basketball world in the American Basketball Association from 2008 to 2011. His SETX Mavericks won back to back ABA/Pro Basketball National Championships in 2011 and 2010 with Coach Steve C. Tucker at the helm.

Tucker has coached 27 players that have gone on to play in the NBA. He has coached in seven different pro basketball leagues. Some of his achievements include being rated as one of the Top Professional Head Coaches Not Coaching in the NBA, Coach of the Year 9 times, and 13 league or conference/division championships.

The ABA existed from 1967 to 1976 before being merged with the NBA. Today it is fondly remembered by its loyal fans as the “outlaw” league. It featured dazzling above-the-rim players like Julius Erving, Connie Hawkins, George “Ice” Gervin, Dan “The Horse” Issel. The ABA’s website, abalive.com says there are more 100 ABA teams in the US, Canada, Bahamas and China.
