(Owensboro, Ky) – On a cold, snowy Valentine’s Day, the Kentucky Mavericks took care of business easily, beating the Grand Rapids Cyclones 138-89. The Mavericks move to 9-0 on the season while the Cyclones drop to 0-4.

The Cyclones looked like they were going to make Kentucky really work for the win, opening the game on a 10-0 run. Grand Rapids only trailed after one quarter by 1 point until the Mavericks went on a 27-4 run to start the second quarter. They never looked back, leading to a 39 point victory, their largest margin of victory this season.

Gerard DeVaughn led the Mavericks in a very productive game, scoring 32 points. The January Player of the Month, Anthony “The Jet” Jackson added 22 points and sharp shooting PJ Couisnard nailed 6 threes for 18 points to chip in on the complete blowout.

In five home games, the Mavericks have allowed less than 90 points in four of them. They have allowed less than 100 in seven of the nine games so far this season, proving that defense wins.

Kentucky Mavericks are back in action next Sunday, February 21 at 4 pm CST when they take on the Lake Michigan Admirals at the Owensboro Sportscenter.

Kentucky Mavericks are POWERED by One Health Orthopedics, Edge Sports Performance, 14 News, Vineyard Primary Care, Jennifer Moorman-Bowlds of Shelter Insurance, 102.7 ESPN The Game, and the City of Owensboro.
