PBL Week 4 Recap and Week 5 Preview

Week 5 Preview

Week 5 of the PBL season will be an exciting one starting this Thursday evening at 7:30 with the Danville Riverhawks taking to the road to face the Grand Rapids Cyclones.

Friday evening we have a potential playoff preview between the top 2 seeds the Kentucky Mavericks and Danville Riverhawks at 7 PM. Will the Riverhawks hand the Mavericks their first loss in the PBL?  Also at 7 PM Friday night, the Lake Michigan Admirals face the Indianapolis Diesels which will be a tough fought match-up with the Admirals looking to regain their composure after two losses last weekend to Danville.

The Northeast Division has another exciting weekend as many competitive teams compete for the top spot in the division. The first game will be on Friday night at 8 PM with the Buffalo 716ers putting their undefeated record on the line against the Jamestown Jackals.

Saturday afternoon we have two 4 PM contests, starting with the second to last place WNY Thundersnow looking for a signature win at home against the second place New England Shamrocks. Our other match-up at 4 PM is the last place Chautauqua Hurricane looking for signature wins on the road against the Providence Sky Chiefs after losing to them at home last weekend.

Possibly the game of the weekend this Saturday night at 7:05 will be the defending champion Rochester RazorSharks hosting their first meeting against the undefeated Buffalo 716ers.  Buffalo has shown enough depth and talent to contend for the Northeast Division title with the Rochester RazorSharks who have owned the division for multiple years. The ‘Sharks are coming off a huge win in their first game under new Head Coach Chris Iverson and look to build on it with a signature home win against the top team in the division Buffalo.

Week 4 Recap

The Midwest Division finished week four of play this past weekend ending with the top 2 seeds again remaining dominant. The Kentucky Mavericks defeated the Racine Storm on the road 132-119 and hold their undefeated record and unprecedented winning streak.

The Midwest Division provided us with two extremely competitive contests between the Danville Riverhawks and the Lake Michigan Admirals both decided by five points or less. Danville first hosted the Admirals and defeated them 101-96, and then had to travel back to face Lake Michigan on the road the next evening. The Admirals fell to the Riverhawks after a missed last minute shot to tie the game. The Admirals ended up losing by two points at home despite stellar performances from Jon Graham and Kareem Story who combined for 37 points and 22 rebounds.  Darren Washington of the Admirals had an outstanding performance and triple-double with 13 points, 14 rebounds and 11 blocks in his last contest with the Admirals this season. For the Riverhawks Frank Williams and Ben Vazzola combined for 47 points in the victory.

The Northeast Division’s weekend opened up play with the Chautauqua Hurricane heading to face the defending Champion Rochester RazorSharks.  The ‘Sharks were coming off major news of the firing of previous Head Coach Chris Daleo and made a statement victory over the Hurricane ousting them by 35 points for their largest victory of the season.  The talented backcourt of the RazorSharks, Jerice Crouch and Troy Jackson, combined for 33 points against the Hurricane in a dominant performance.

The New England Shamrocks hosted the WNY Thundersnow and dominated the Thundersnow from start to finish defeating WNY by 39 points in a complete overpowering.  The Shamrocks remain in second place just one loss behind first place Buffalo. After a tough loss in Boston for the Thundersnow, they had to travel the next day to face the Providence Sky Chiefs on the road.  The Sky Chiefs proved too much for the Thundersnow to handle dropping them to 1-6 in the first quarter of the season.

The final game of the weekend was the Chautauqua Hurricane hosting the Jamestown Jackals and fell short losing to the Jackals 117-115. Despite the valiant effort and combined 54 points from Kassim Green and Jonny Marsh, Michael Davenport and the Jackals proved too much to handle. Davenport led the Jackals with 30 points and Darrell Miller added 19 for Jamestown. After this loss the Hurricane fall to 1-7 and remain in the bottom of the Northeast Division one quarter through the season.
