Kentucky Mavericks Win Convinvingly in Road Opener

(Owensboro, Ky) – The Kentucky Mavericks traveled to take on the Lake Michigan Admirals tonight, January 16, to spoil their home open by winning decisively 113-88.

In what was a fast paced game, the Mavericks held a 50-44 lead at halftime, but the Mavericks conditioning came through and really wore down the admirals in the second half, outscoring them 63-44.

The Mavericks were lead in the scoring department by PJ Couisnard and Anthony “The Jet” Jackson with 20 points each. Couisnard is now averaging 27.5 points per game this season to lead the Mavericks.

Brandon Davis was the player of the game by posting a double-double tonight with 18 points and 11 rebounds. After only scoring 11 points with 6 rebounds in the mavericks first game, Davis spoke about his scoring and rebounding influence in tonight’s game, “The key for me was staying aggressive on the boards and for my offensive game, I just converted my shots better.”

The Mavericks have now held opponents to 88 points in both their games. Coach Steve Tucker was pleased with his teams efforts on the defensive end tonight. “The team takes a lot of pride on defense and it has been a real big plus for us. Our experience and effort to play within our system makes a big difference on both ends of the court for us.”

Coach Tucker also had good output from his bench in the win, “I was really happy with out bench tonight, especially our post.”

Gerard Vaughn, center out of Stillman College, in his first game as a Maverick, had 7 points to help out, along with 4 rebounds. Coach Tucker also mentioned Jamar Sanders and Jon Rogers and key contributors to the teams success.

The Mavericks take on the Danville Riverhawks in the next game at home in the Owensboro Sportscenter on Monday, January 18. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. and can be watched or heard on 102.7 The Game and ESPN 3.
