Meet The Mavericks Day 1

(Owensboro, Ky) – Four days from the Kentucky Mavericks home opener against the reigning PBL Champion Rochester Razorsharks at the Sportscenter at 7 pm. Since we are so close to the season and still new to the Owensboro area, it is time to meet the players! Each day, 3 of your Maverick will be introduced starting with guard Mike Crain, forward Cordarius Johnson, and post player Brandon Davis.

Mike Crain
Mike Crain is 31 year old, 6’3” guard who played ball 4 years in college and in 3 different countries. Mike graduated from Lovejoy High School in Georgia then signed immediately with Valdosta State University where he played from 2003-2007. Mike has played in Slovakia, Kuwait, and Uruguay, along with playing in the CBA, UBA, and ABA while in America.
Where did you grow up?
I was born in Detroit, Michigan until about 7 when his family moved to Atlanta.
What inspired you to first play basketball?
My dad and uncles put the ball in my hands when I was young. They all played through high school and it drew me close to the game.
What was your influence to play basketball collegiately and professionally?
I was recruited by multiple schools after high school, it was just choosing the right one.
For professional, it just kind of fell into place so I got to choose what I thought was best.
What did you want to be growing up?
Besides basketball, I knew that I wanted to help people and make a difference.
What do you want to do after you are done playing basketball?
I want to coach or be involved with a professional franchise. I might also go back to school.
Who was your favorite player and team growing up?
Michael Jordan and the Bulls of course.
Who do your game mimic the closest?
I have had some friends say it is close to Arron Afflalo.
Do you have a pregame/postgame ritual?
I don’t really have a ritual per say. Just a good warm up and prayer along with the secret handshakes that some of my teammates and I have.
What is your greatest basketball Achievement or Memory?
In 2001, I got to play alongside Lamarcus Aldridge and Carmelo Anthony in the World Championships as part of Team USA.

Cordarius Johnson
Cordarius Johnson is the youngest player on the Mavericks this year at 23 years old. He is a shooting guard/small forward from Coushatta, Louisiana. Playing High School ball at Red River, he went to college and played for Louisiana Tech. This is his first team professionally.
What inspired you to first play basketball?
I was introduced to the game at a young age. I’ve been playing since I was five years old.
What was your influence to play basketball collegiately and professionally?
My family was my main motivation and has been there for everything I do. I love to make my family proud.
What did you want to be growing up?
Playing professionally has always been my dream.
What do you want to do after your years of playing basketball?
Coaching and maybe get into a school system.
Who was your favorite player and team growing up?
Carmelo Anthony has been my favorite player since 2003.
Who do you compare your game the closest to?
Khawi Leonard
Do you have a pregame/postgame ritual?
Listening to music and taking a hot shower about an hour and a half before games.
What is your greatest basketball achievement/memory?
Winning two back to back conference championships and Louisiana Tech.

Brandon Davis
B. Davis, from Birmingham, Alabama, is a 30 year old PF. He played high school ball at West End and then in College at South Alabama. He played a year in Lithuania and the played for the ABA’s Mobile Bay Hurricanes before joining the Mavericks. Brandon Davis has played for the Mavericks for 3 seasons now.

What was your influence to play basketball collegiately and professionally?
My parents
What did you want to be growing up?
I wanted to coach.
What do you want to do after your years playing basketball?
I want to start coaching.
Who was your favorite player growing up?
Michael Jordan
What is your greatest basketball achievement/memory?
In 2008 we got an at large bid into the NCAA tournament.
