Tuesday, April 28th

(Shreveport, LA.) – Shreveport-Bossier Mavericks head coach Steve Tucker added to his already overwhelming list of achievements this week when the American Basketball Association named him 2015 ABA Coach of the Year.

This is the fifth straight active season that the winningest coach in ABA history has won the coveted award, most ever in league history. The Mavericks under Tucker have won a professional basketball record 92 straight games dating to December of 2010, and have brought home four straight ABA championships.

"I am humbled to be selected Coach of the Year again,” said Tucker, who has a 208-26 record as a coach in the ABA and a 155-7 mark with the Mavs. “It is an honor. Our players and assistant coaches should get the credit, for their efforts help me in so many ways. I share in this honor with them."

Tucker led his Mavericks to an unprecedented second-straight undefeated season in 2014-15– no professional team had ever posted an unbeaten record prior to the 2013-14 team – when Shreveport-Bossier went 32-0 this season and swept the Miami Midnites in the league championship series.

The ABA’s Coach of the Decade (2001-10), Tucker’s four titles are twice as many as any other coach in league history. He also trails only Bill Musselman and Dave Joerger (both now coaching in the NBA) for most championships for professional coaches outside the NBA (Musselman/Joerger – 5, Tucker – 4).

Tucker was named the best pro coach not in the NBA by probasketballnews.com in 2009, and has been ranked in the top four of that list three different times. He is one of a handful of coaches to have ever won championships on the professional, college, and international levels.

A 30-year coaching veteran, Tucker is one of the top ambassadors for the game of basketball, conducting clinics and camps internationally to help develop the game worldwide. He is also very active in the community and on college campuses, using the platform of basketball to advocate better ways of living in our society and in the empowerment of youth to live positive lives.
