(Shreveport, LA.) – The four-time American Basketball Association champion Shreveport-Bossier Mavericks got national press Thursday night when they were mentioned prominently on ESPN’s flagship program Sportscenter in a segment by anchor Neil Everett.

“Make sure and tell Coach T (Mavs head coach Steve Tucker) that I said ‘Aloha’,” said the popular Everett by phone from Los Angeles Thursday night. “He’s an old friend from our days in Hawaii and has kept me up on the Mavericks this season. I wanted to recognize you guys. You’ve done a great job out there.”

Tucker and Everett first met in 1988 while the coach was at Hawaii-Loa and the broadcaster was the sports information director for Hawaii Pacific University. Everett also served as the SID for the NAIA District 29 Conference to which both schools belonged, and got his start in television as a weekend sports anchor on a local Hawaiian station.

“We go way back,” said Tucker. “Neil’s a wonderful guy, and it means a lot to this organization to have this kind of national exposure.”

In the segment which led in to ESPN’s coverage of the NBA playoffs, Everett stood in front of a large monitor showing the Shreveport-Bossier Mavericks’ logos, lauding the accomplishments of the team over the past two seasons since moving to the city. He spoke of the Mavs’ back-to-back undefeated seasons in 2013-14 and 2014-15, their ABA titles in those years, and made special mention of star swingman Josh Pace, an NCAA national champion with Syracuse in 2003.
