Thursday, February 19th

(Shreveport, LA.) – The top-ranked and defending ABA champion Shreveport-Bossier Mavericks return to Hirsch Memorial Coliseum this Saturday and Sunday – February 21-22 – after a successful road trip that saw them take big wins over the Memphis Lions and the #5-ranked Bowling Green Bandits over this past weekend and clinch a division championship in the process.

Friday, the Mavs welcome the Metroplex Lightning, who have already visited Shreveport-Bossier twice this season, then host the DFW Stars on Sunday. Saturday’s contest is slated for a 7 p.m. tip-off, while Sunday’s afternoon game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.

In conjunction with the games against the Lightning and Stars, the Mavericks are giving away free general admission to each game when you pick up your tickets at least one hour prior to game time. Hirsch Memorial Coliseum box office hours are 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and noon until game time on Saturday and Sunday. For more information, call the box office at (318) 631-4930 during business hours.

Also Saturday, the Lady Mavs Dance Team is holding its Dance Clinic 2015 at Hirsch. The clinic, which will run from noon until 4 p.m. Saturday, is open to girls ages 4-18 with a registration fee of $25 that includes a Mavericks t-shirt and lunch. Among the activities that will be covered in the clinic are hip-hop choreography, beginner and advanced jazz techniques, sharp arm movements, and floor choreography. Girls in attendance will learn a dance routine taught by the Lady Mavs Dance Team and perform that routine at halftime of that night’s game. Participants may register online at sbmavs.com, or may arrive by 11 a.m. Saturday to get signed up.

The Mavericks (23-0) clinched the ABA’s Gulf Coast Division title with their 98-89 victory over Bowling Green Sunday, the fifth division crown the franchise has won. Shreveport-Bossier has won a professional basketball record 83 straight games, and are 57-0 since moving from Southeast Texas in 2013. The last loss for the Mavs came on December 19, 2010. The Mavs boasts a perfect 45-0 record all-time at Hirsch, and has won 84-straight home games dating back to 2010.

Metroplex lost to Shreveport-Bossier 146-92 on January 3 at Hirsch for head coach Steve Tucker’s 600th career coaching victory on any level. Saturday, the Lightning have a chance to be on the wrong end of another milestone as Tucker shoots for his 200th career win in the ABA, most all time.

Metroplex features a small, quick lineup led by forward Justin Patton, who scored 18 points against the Mavericks in early January. Guard Charlie Shorter was named to the Mavericks Tip-Off Classic all-tournament team on December 7 after the Lightning took third place in the event. Shorter scored 40 points against the Central Texas Rhythm in that tournament’s consolation game, while Patton fired in 26 points and grabbed 15 rebounds.

The DFW Stars, members of the UBA, are making their first trip to Shreveport-Bossier and are 3-0 on the season in limited play after a 105-74 win over the Fort Worth Fresh Saturday. Veteran shooting guard Josh Gonner, a former South Carolina Gamecock, leads a versatile offense, while point guard Tay Merriewether and center James Duffey of Niagara anchor a ferocious defense that has given up an average of 73 points per game.
