Wednesday, February 4th

(Shreveport, LA.) – The top-ranked defending champion Shreveport-Bossier Mavericks, fresh off a successful road trip to #2-ranked Jacksonville over the past weekend, return to Hirsch Memorial Coliseum this Saturday and Sunday with a pair of games against impressive upstart Providence (Rhode Island), and local fans will get free admission when they sport their Mardi Gras gear or beads.

The Mavericks declared these contests as “Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler Weekend” in conjunction with the local Mardi Gras festivities. Fans who wear their Mardi Gras colors and/or beads get in free Saturday with special tip-off time of 8 p.m. and Sunday with game time of 6 p.m. As always, children 12 and under receive free admission, and all fans get ½ price admission on Sunday when they bring their church bulletins.

Shreveport-Bossier (19-0) traveled to Jacksonville Saturday, January 31, and throttled the Giants 115-82 before a packed house at Veterans Memorial Arena. Josh Pace, P.J. Couisnard, Brandon Davis, and Jon Rogers led a dominant performance that saw the Mavs hold the host team well below their season average of over 120 points.

The Mavericks now hold a professional basketball record 79-game winning streak, and have won 82 straight home games, including a flawless 43-0 record at Hirsch Memorial Coliseum since moving to Shreveport-Bossier in 2013.

The #10-ranked Providence Sky Chiefs are competing in the ABA for the first time this season, and have come out strong in their inaugural campaign, sporting a record of 12-4 with three straight wins after a 133-73 victory over the Brooklyn SkyRockets this past Saturday.

The Sky Chiefs, led by head coach Kyle Ivey-Jones, boast a big, strong lineup that includes leading scorer and 3-point specialist Shane De Rosa, leading rebounder Damel Wilson, and former University of Rhode Island standout Orion Outerbridge.

Ivey-Jones says that the team, however, is more important than any one superstar player.

“Every player on our team has the potential of being our top player,” said Ivey-Jones, a former URI star in his own right. “Our play throughout this season has displayed just that.”

Ivey-Jones and his squad look at this weekend’s games against the ABA’s best team as “a great opportunity.

“Matching up with the #1 ranked team in the ABA in Shreveport is huge for the Providence Sky Chiefs,” said Ivey-Jones. “We are definitely ready for the challenge. The Providence Sky Chiefs are coming to Shreveport to play two great games. This is a great opportunity.”

PROVIDENCE NOTES: ** The Sky Chiefs, the Ocean State’s first professional basketball team in nearly three decades, joined the ABA in 2014 as part of the league’s expansion. The Rhode Island-based team is the brain-child of team owner Giovanni Feroce, the Chairman and CEO of BENRUS LLC, a military-inspired lifestyle brand… ** The Sky Chief is one of BENRUS’ iconic watches and is the inspiration for the team’s nickname. Known for its accuracy, it was the official watch of pilots during World War II and commercial airline pilots in the 50’s and 60’s… ** Says Ivey-Jones of the Sky Chiefs’ first season in the ABA: “The Providence Sky Chiefs inaugural season is going as expected. The Sky Chiefs brand is fully committed to excellence. Our entire staff – from our ownership down to our players – is committed to setting the standard of being the best. Therefore we are not surprised by our progress and success to this point. We continue to improve day to day, game by game.”

Tickets for 2014-15 Shreveport-Bossier Mavericks games are on sale now at or at Hirsch Memorial Coliseum box office, which can be reached at (318) 631-4930.
