Well, it is December again which means it is time for the 2014 ABA Tip-Off Classic hosted by the Shreveport-Bossier Mavericks. This year's tournament consists of four teams from all over the country and are as follows: Metroplex Lightning from Dallas,Tx, Central Texas Rhythm from Austin,Tx, Naptown All-Stars from INdianpolis,IN, and of course the Shreveport-Bossier Mavericks.

Game 1 was close for the first three quarters of play as the Lightning and Naptown traded leads back and forth. During the final quarter of play the extremely poised Naptown All-Stars pulled away from the Lightning, winning by a score of 122-106.

The same could not be said for game 2 as the Mavericks dominated the Rhythm for all four quarters. The game was close going into the game's first timeout with a score of 15-10 in favor of the Mavericks. It was all Mavericks after that as they finished the quarter on a 24-8 run to open up a 21 point lead.

Just when the Mavericks defense did not seem to get any better they elevated their defensive play to a whole other level. The Mavericks held the Rhythm to a mere 13 points in the second quarter with a clinic-like performance. The offense was equally impressive as the Mavericks hoisted up an amazing 49 points in the quarter.

"We truly were focused in tonight and made it point to play well defensively. Tonight we showed all our fans that we aren't just deep offensively; all 14 guys on this roster can dig in on defense and get the job done" said team captain Alex Sanders.

The Mavericks would continue to showcase their defensive prowess the second half holding the Rhythm to 17 points in both the third and fourth quarter, going on to win big with a final score of 165-56. Thus being the Mavericks second 90 plus point margin of victory this season already.

Sanders lead all scorers with 22 points, while Mike Crain added 20 points of his own, and Chris Hagan and Anthony Jackson each had 17 points as well, rounding off the nights top scorers.

Sanders added 13 rebounds as well, finishing the night with a double-double. Hagan added an impressive 7 steals tonight also, leading all players in statistic.
The Mavericks advance to the championship game with this win and will face the Naptown All-Stars Sunday December 7th at 6:00 pm in the Hirsch Memorial Colliseum. A consolation game will be played prior the championship matchup at 4:00pm between the Lightning and Rhythm.

"Tonight was a good win but we have to forget about it and move on to tomorrow's game against Naptown. It's time to go get another tournament championship," Sanders stated after the win.
